How to design a ported box?

thanks alot bro
so tuning is just a combination of port area and port length in relationship with net volume? Correct.

so qes, qts, etc doesnt have much of an impact outside of competition? (or not much impact inside winisd?) Those parameters are more for the graphs inside WinISD, which would be in an ideal evironment. It does not take into account a vehicle environment where there are a million variables, for example cabin gain. So, personally I think the graphs are useless.

i got the impression it was more complicated then this

what do people do when they get a 10" type r to do 151db?

Test, test, test, and re-test.

Cool thanks, only a few questions. Do you have to use winISD Pro or will winISD work? And what do you mean by "pick an arbitrary driver, and continue to ported"? I am not very familiar with winISD.
WinISD will work, I've found Pro to be more accurate though.

Pick an arbitrary driver mean, just pick anyone in the list you want. It doesn't matter what you pick, just pay no attention to the graphs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

Why ? If you need a sticky to tell you how to perform basic math calculations and use basic logic, you have no business designing enclosures ...
The difficult part in designing enclosures is figuring out what's going to work best in your particular situation ... That part mostly comes from experience ...
what about this is basic logic? no one here is asking how to calculate volume or area, id say it takes a little more then common sense to put all this together, or to know how much port area to use per cube.

so people new to car audio shouldnt attempt to learn, and should just leave it to the already experienced? some of us would like to learn how and why rather than just having somone else do it; everyones gotta start somewhere

While I do agree with you 100%, I wouldn't think the kid trying to get a box built for whatever subs is going to go into designing enclosures for other people. Threads are always popping up for variations of Moe's plans cause they don't fit their max/min measurements and Noah's post would simply allow them to make their own, without making the thread or spending the $7-10 to have someone do it for them...

Alright so I downloaded winISD and put in my desired volume and tuning. But cannot seem to find the port tab?
Look for "vent tab".

Once there, click on the "circle" symbol to change it to a "square" symbol for rectangular/slot ports. Then you can type in your port dimensions.
