How important is XMax?

Im looking at all these subs - to see what will work best in my truck. I saw somewhere that XMax is important. I know its the linear movement of the cone, but comparing the ED e12k to the L5 or L7 and the XMax is not as high on the Kickers? I dont think this means the ED is a better sub?

I called kicker and they told me to run 2xL7 10's in a 1 cuft box sealed (max room I have). They also said the 12's wouldnt perform in that small of a box. Now the Sd on the 10" l5 or L7 is almost that of a 12" sub anywhere else on the market (square). How did you guys pic your subs? How do I pick out the best sub for my truck? looking for SQ/SPL!!

I have the Memphis Belle 75x4, 1000x1. And 1 cuft sealed ea sub.

Help,

Ed

Xmax just means it has the potential to move more air(a deep stroke kind of), you don't hit xmax that much( a least that I know of). Most impotant is to get the right enclosure with the right power for your likings. Xmax can make a diff though, also looks cool as hell when it realy gets moving.

Sounds like you have limited space, was that 1 cube per sub or 1 cube total.

whats your budget, whats your SPL/SQ ratio. I picked mine by posting on here with questions and just researching to find what fit my needs.

With that little bit of space I would check out the RE 8s that have been talked about in some of the other threads.

Xmax really doesn't mean all that much. Don't base your decision on something as trivial as Xmax. It isn't an accurate indicator of potential output - take DD for instance. It IS a good indicator of potential output within a linear range, though.

I have 1 cuft each sub. 10" or 12" whatever is better for me.

whats your budget
Doesnt matter, I just want the right sub(s).

whats your SPL/SQ ratio.
More SPL than SQ - 70/30 I guess

I tried that - but not many people run sealed. Hard to get a good opinion from someone.

I'm very happy with my Ks as well.
What type of box and power are you running. I called ed and they said I can run 1 12a ported in a 1.8 cuft box. They said it would be as loud as 2x12k's sealed. More impressive i guess.

Kicker told me to run 2 L710's in a sealed box at 1 cuft each - would be very loud. But just checking all my options.

This is becoming a pain in the butt. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wacky.gif.cf4a48f9e6dfe9504ffd2c946fd2f340.gif

My Ks are in a rather big ported box, tuned to 30hz. running the Avionixx 800.2 so most likely a little more than 400 to each sub.

I think 1 12a would be great. If it is sealed picture it as a 70/60 sub. All the SPL you want plus better SQ than you expected. If you can put 1000 watts to it I think you would be very happy.

You won't go and dominate any comps, well at least any comps with compatent people, should be able to show up most people you know depending on what they run, but it will still be enough to make your ears hurt. If you want more than that you are going to need a bigger or ported box.

Do they play all types of music? I listen to a veriaty of music.

Ok- cool. How about if that 12a was in a ported box with 1000watts to it? I think after all my reading on this and other forums - that one 12 ported 12 would be more output than 2 sealed 12's. What is your take on that?

You just tell me what you think would be best to run one 12a ported with the power I have - The box I have now is 2 cuft. I may be able to cut it down - but not bigger.

Thanks,

Ed

Don't base your decision to to much on all those specs that are designed for us not to understand. Go around and base your decision on other peopls experiences with them.
