How big of a box for 12" XXX?

I measured my trunk recently, and I have around 9.75 cubic feet of space within these dimensions: 50w x 28h x 12d. I was wondering whether to go with a 4 cubic foot box, or the recommended 2.1 cubic foot box. I would port both of these to 28 hertz, if its possible with the 4 cubic foot box. I've heard that I would lose some higher bass frequencies with the bigger box, such as those from a bass drum, but I was discussing this with a friend who has only built sealed boxes, and i didn't make it clear that the 4 cubic foot box would be ported.

4 cu/ft @ 28Hz will give a nice gain at about 30Hz. That would be about the biggest you want to go with a single 12".

In order to answer your question, I would need to know what model (e.g. SW4200, SW7524DVC). Also, are you looking to make a ported box or sealed?

Wow, kinda baffled here. Once you get the tune right. You don’t need to mess with it. However, A bad tune you will. You may have different type...
