Hooking a Sub Box to a Home Audio System

Okay, I have 2 4ohm MTX speakers with a MTX 1500DX running them. The thing is that I want to temporarly hook them up to a home theatre system until I get another car(I totalled the last one). I know it can be done but I don't have the electrical knowledge to know what I am doing. I have a 12V and a 14.4V DC adapter at my house but where to put the ground is making no sense. I haven't done anything yet but I don't want to my subs just gathering dust. This by no means has to be an expert job, just something that can last a few weeks or months. it could be done np,

just get a house-hold volt regulater, this puts the power out put at 12 volts (needed for the amp). Make sure to get one that has the positive/negitive and ground. Then just connect as nessary.

You might hae to go to your local hardware store for this through. You need something that is good, or it could send to much current to the amp and subs. Then could you spell smoke!!! I also have another idea, and yes I have done this.

I have my home suround unit tower speakers, i took the old 100 watt 8 ohm subs. Then replaced them with reactor subs rated at 600 watts in 4 ohms. The only thing was making sure my stereo amp could handle the 4ohm load. I tired it out and it works fine. The thing gets hot fast, if it's too hot it shuts the power fuze off. I installed a huge vent fan on the top of the unit, it's never been hot since. And you should hear the bass. about 2400 watts of it. My firends all come to my house to watch movies. it's truly awesome.

Okay, another question.... How many amps at 12V is the DC converter supposed to produce? I don't want to fry this sub.

Your 1500DX makes a kilowatt of output, and if you want to run it off an external source you'd need nearly 100 amps of 13.8 volt power. Consider a car battery connected across one of those massive "chargers" mechanics use to jump start a car. That's what you're looking at. A regulated power supply big enough for that would cost serious bucks.

Maybe a better solution would be run the subs directly off your stereo. Most home amps handle 4 ohm loads ok, so put the 2 subs in series and connect them across one channel of the stereo.
