Using a 6.5 inch tang band subwoofer, 2 visaton 4 inch coaxial speakers running, all on a tsp3116d2 amplifier. 25 watts rms x 2 and 50 watts rms x 1 to the subwoofer. Low pass filter at 150 hz with some potentiometers for sub level, master volume, satellite volume, bass and treble.

Modeling the sub and designing. Doing this one in .35 cubes at 35 hz with a crossover at 150 hz. The coaxials will play above that. I’ve done 2 of these portable Bluetooth builds using the tang band 3 inch and 5.25 inch subs already and they are beautiful small subs. The 5.25 puts out a ton of usable low bass and the 6.5 models up better in terms of frequency range....on paper. The 5.25 moves ALOT for a small little sub, and the bass irritates the wife, which is an effective db meter. Excited to use the 6.5 in real world. Next build will be using passive radiators, again starting with the 3 inch and 5.25 inch first.

Got home today after work and found that I didn’t have pvc to make my ports, so I decided to just make my own from wood. 1.875 on the inside diameter and 2.875 outside. It adds a little displacement, but only adds an inch on the width over what pvc would have been. Probably going to try to use the rigid military-tool and try to get a little more flare. I’m debating adding another piece on the flared end that’s a tad larger and flaring it even more.

Need some grills for the coaxials. I don’t like the amplifier. It puts out the power, which is 25 watts x2 and 50 to the sub, but the potentiometers aren’t very good (they crackle and pop when adjusting) and the knobs look super cheap....because they are.

This tang band sub throws some serious air. It blows my shirt from 6 feet away from the port and legitimately plays articulate bass down to the 34 hz port tuning. Seems like it needs more than the 50 watts it’s getting. I suspected this when I picked it up and realized how heavy it is, so I oversized the box from .35 to .5 and I’m glad I did. This amp can’t push it all the way.

The Visaton speakers are quite impressive. Very nice sound and super clean. I have them crossed over at 150 hz now, but I was playing them at playing full range to test the midbass/bass and they weren’t half bad for a 4 inch. Very loud on 25 watts with a crossover on them. The tweeter could be a tad harsh though with the full 40 watts rms to them. It’s not horrible, but I did have to turn the treble down a little to mellow them out.

Overall, I’d give this a 5 out of 10 on looks. It definitely looked better on paper. The layout of the sub, speakers, amp knobs and the bars just doesn’t look quite right in real life.

Always wanted to mess with those TB subs. Do you have a model no.? I can see some pretty country through the window there.
this one is the 6.5 inch, but I’ve used all their subs that are available to consumers. My shop radio has the 5.25 inch sub, and it’s also excellent. You won’t find a 50 watt 6.5 inch sub with the bandwidth and xmax this one has. Even the 3 inch sub plays usable bass. I’m very impressed with tang band subs.
