Okay I kind of want some firearms but I have never owned a gun before and money isn't plentiful, I saw one of these at a local pawn shop for $199 new and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with these? I've done some research and there are negative reviews of Hi-Point in general but most are just blatant shouts, kind of like how we say Audiobahn are no good but they're really not that bad. They do feel heavy and are not as good looking as the S&W .45(or 9mm, don't remember) next to it but that gun is $500, plus having a gun is better than no gun.

Also I want to start with inexpensive ones so I can learn to appreciate when I go up to a higher model/brand, plus I can probably buy two of them and be a dual-wield SOB.

Maybe I'll trade in my subs for some guns...

Hi-point is ****. A fried of mine owned one and it would jam if you didn't hold the gun firmly when shooting. If you want a good gun look to spend 400-500 on it. I would recommend a Springfield XD or a Beretta px4. Really, you need to look around and try out some guns at a range (renting) or at least seeing how the feel in your hand at a gun store.

That seems a tad high( I can get them for about $170 new) but they are a great weapon for the beginner.

They are cheap but do what they are suppose to do.

Al least if you do not like it, (or the .45acp for that matter) you are not out a rather large amount of $$$ vs buying a 1911 or something

along those lines.

Hi Points have a VERY high FTF/FTE (Fail to Fire/Fail to Eject) rate.... means they jam.... ALOT! I would rather have one gun that fires, than have 2 that dont! LOL

Why do you want a .45? Nothing against them but most are big and not easily concealable, if you want to go that route...

I carry a Keltec P-11 9mm. Nice gun, fires well. 10+1 capacity. Is smaller and lightweight so it kicks alittle but you get used to it. I payed $245 for mine brand new.

yea every 1 here pretty much said it already they jam a helluva lot got a friend that has 1 he saw the price and got it now hes pretty much just trashing it and getting a Springfield 1911 with guns u really get what u pay for so just save up the money and get something good because guns don't devalue as long as its treated right

Checkout this video review... there's another video of some guy hammering a machine bolt into the .38's barrel and it didn't blow up when fired, they said it took a ton of abuse that isn't normally associated with gun use.

The reason why they are cheap is because it's a "blowback" design and easy to produce(at least as far as I know), they also have a lifetime warranty and is made in Ohio, everyone said their customer service is really good. Now I have no idea why a gun would jam but all guns can jam at some point isn't it? Doesn't the ammo and the clip/magazine has a lot to do with that too?

I have the Hi point 45 in the rifle and pistol...plus I have them both in the 9's...they are very good economical weapons....I have shot 100's if not 1000's of rounds through them and never have had any glich or hangups......plus they are extremely accurate...I love mine

Heres a pic of my Hi-Point 45 next to my Glock 45...I prefer it over the Glock...though I do like the Glocks compact size

Gun guy here... personal recommendation would be Ruger. If you are set on .45 look for a Ruger P97 if 9mm a Ruger p95. both can be found for not much more than a Hi-Point.

I have a p95 that I have had for 3 years and have shot well over 1500 rounds through it with not one single issue.

I have several Rugers as well....but the Hi-Point is very nice 45 for the money ..

Hi-Points are great for learners. They jam often IF YOU DON'T HOLD IT RIGHT. That post earlier about jamming if you don't hold it firmly...well you're supposed to hold it firmly.

Almost any gun will jam if you hold it loosely enough >.>

Back to the subject: The hi-point will teach you to hold your gun right, it will be heavy, you will get crap from other people at the range, but it will make you appreciate the next gun (if you get one) TONS more.

My dad has a hi-point JCP in .40S&W and a C9 (compact 9mm). I have shot them both without a problem.

The S&W Sigma (SW40VE mentioned earlier) is a great gun. About $300 here. I have the sigma in 9mm and love it. It is much more forgiving as far as holding the gun properly, but I will say that the hi-point, with it's barrel connected directly to the frame, is a much more accurate handgun.

....just my $.02

Wait, $200 is way too much for that gun. My dad bought his .40S&W for $120 brand new. Also, hi-points have a lifetime warranty and hi-point will freely fix/replace any malfunctioning gun.
