im thinking about fiberglassing my oem plastic parts.....how do i do this

would i do a layer of glass overit and when it cures, use that as the mold? or do i just glass the thing and make it fit.....help please and also i wanted to fiberglass my dash...do i just fiberglass it and it will fit...(my dash is thick with padding) or do i have to make a mold HELP PLEASE

for the plastic parts, you can put some car wax on them and then glass right on them. BUT the new pieces wil lbe bigger. so if you mold off the inside they should be the right size. I havent tired that since my parts werent very vital to be to spec for size

there are a hundred different ways to make a mold. you might want to try making a plaster mold of the OEM part (plaster is cheaper than fiberglass and a lot easier to work with). I usually cover the parts with tinfoil or vasoline if I'm doing a "lay-over piece".

Well sir, you say you want to fiberglass your dash. I don't get what you mean by that. Most of the time when you see glassed dashes they are built from scratch out with the old in with the new. But as for making molds. Play doh, and modeling clay work rather well too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ok-here comes a dunb question so brace yourself.

WHy cant you glass over the vinly of plastic? will it fall off or something?

Does anybody got a link on how to glass a dashboard? thanx

Yep polyester resin doesn't stick to plastic very well. However epoxy resin will. As for a link check out Lonerangers site gnomeaudio.com . He's got some pictures of what you want to do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
