It might be "ghetto" by today's standards but I used to run a wire off the battery to a switch then to the amp...back in my youth the Police liked pulling over anybody loud and the kill switch made it easier to hide who it was

Yeah, put the probes on the power wire and ground wire of the amplifier. Multimeter on DC.
Do not put it on the wires that go to your speakers. M

That is correct. I like these as they are twisted pair and the RCA ends are thick and grip quite nicely...
