having amp trouble

ok my dad has an alpine amp and when you turn the gain up it wont do anything and right now he has it all the way up, when it was in his old truck it worked fine and the gain was like half way and now its all the way and it doesent sound like it did when it was half way in the middle

wat kinda deck u got?? cuz i heard ur not posed to have the gain past the 3/4 mark. y not just turn it down and see if u can hear anything?? (this quote is annoying but its tru, lol) remember that the gain is to match the h/u voltage not a volume control

oh ya by not sounding like it did wen it was half way in the middle do u mean distortion? if so thats a clipped signal u need to turn it down till there is no distortion

no it sounded good in the middle right where i wanted it and now it is all the way and still doesent sound good, its like there is hardly any bass and the gain is all the way
