Has anyone ever been in a vehicle with 170+ DB?

Yes....Huge difference between 160 and 170. Remember kids Decibles are exponential...So going from 160-161 is louder than going from 136-137. The higher up you get...the bigger the steps get.
Its actually logarithmic

i have been outside of a truck doing 160+ and that was loud. i can't imagine being inside. it made my sister literally jump in the air and she knew it was coming.

some dumb kid said soemthing about panasonic having a 190dB and up club.......i laughed at him as he paid me to hook up his amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

To put it to you this way...

IT is alot harder to go from 151-152. than it is 141-142. Because It is a larger step for you to make. What it took at 141 to gain a db, might only get you 2 tenths at 151

Man I hear ya. It has taken a lot to get from 155.3 to 156.9 since I started the wall. Steps that when I was in the 145db range would have gained me 2-3 dB are now getting me .3-.5 dB.

The goal is 160 in my daily driver. That last 3 dB is killing me. The main problem is getting there and keeping a system that is killer for music and will still haul the entire faimily to the grocery store!!!

edit - And to stay on topic - man going from high 140's to high 150's was a heck of a difference. I have had more than one person get out of my suburban very quickly when the music starts. I just could not imagine 170+. Got to be getting close to the point of causing serious injury or death.

I've never been crazy enough to sit in our car at 170+, but even being outside of the vehicle, while we are burping it inside the shop, can be intense. No matter how prepared I am for the blast of sound, it always scares the shit out of me. Then not only your body, but the entire shop vibrates. It's pretty sick.

I remember 2-3 years ago a guy died from a collapsed lung. Heavy smoker. I cannot find the article, but it was a true story published on somethign like CNN or Yahoo.

Do a search and you will find many warnings about loud music and collapsed lungs.

Loud Music Worsens Effects of Taking Ecstasy:

about half way down the page there is an article called "I knew It, I knew it..." he talks about loud music being a factor in Heart Attacks:
