Has anyone ever been in a vehicle with 170+ DB?

I'm pretty sure that figure stays the same no matter what decible you are at.
He means that each time you double the power to get those 3 theoretical dB's the number of watts needed gets a lot bigger each time.

For example if we have a speaker that does 90 dB at 1 watt at 1 meter then science says

93 dB at 2 watts

96 dB at 4 watts

99 dB at 8 watts

101 dB at 16 watts

104 dB at 32 watts

107 dB at 64 watts

110 dB at 128 watts

113 dB at 256 watts

116 dB at 512 watts

See how fast the power needs add up to get a minimal increase in SPL ? It gets worse when you talk real world numbers where you have to deal with things like limits of the driver, the electrical system, cancellation, etc...

Yeah I understood what he meant, I was talking to that other guy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I dont think Ive even sat in a 140db. Can anybody make a guesstimate on how much mine puts out. Its not worth getting it metered. But Im thinking around 110. My RA is bringing his Neon around in about 30min and he says his is around 135db so Im looking forward to that.

Twice the accoustical power is required to have a theoretical increase of 3 dB.
The human ear typically perceives a 10dB increase as "twice as loud"... but who knows when you we are talking about sub bass at retarded loud levels.
Yeah.

Most theories get tossed out of the window pretty quick when you are talking about acoustical performance in an automotive setting. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've sat in some 160 cars, and its not pleasant at all. You can't breath, it feels like you are getting pushed on from every angle, and it blurs everything.

It was fun though! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

To put it to you this way...

IT is alot harder to go from 151-152. than it is 141-142. Because It is a larger step for you to make. What it took at 141 to gain a db, might only get you 2 tenths at 151
I know that from first hand experience.

Back when I first started competing and was doing mid 144's, I thought it was awesome. I look back at that now and realize how quiet I was. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
