I spent a few days since I painted a few things too. The actual cleaning wasn’t too bad.

I would easily pay $250 to have my engine bay cleaned that good. Throwing out a business idea. Nice work!

And what did you use to clean it?

1. I vacuumed as much dirt as possible first. 2. Then used a leaf blower.
3. Next removed the battery (tried removing the air filter box, but snapped a rusty bolt).
4. Covered up the main engine with a plastic bag making sure the spark plugs were covered and used low pressure garden hose with a nice shower wand (probably has the same force as your shower and not the low, low pressure of a garden shower wand).

I sprayed the hood liner and the bottom of the hood down first (with the powerful jet spray actually). Then sprayed the rest of the engine (with shower).
5. Sprayed Chemical Guys Orange degreaser ( everywhere and scrubbed well with a soft brush (a toothbrush in tight areas).
6. Rinsed the degreaser off.
7. Wiped anywhere that still looked dirty with Tub-o-Towels heavy duty wipes and/or microfiber towels.
8. Rinsed again.
9. Dried it with a leaf blower and microfiber towels and let sit for a night to completely dry.

The following day is when I touched up the nasty looking nuts and bolts with a paint marker (I had previously took a small wire brush to the rust) and removed the manifold heat shield to paint. I also painted the raised lettering on the engine cover and anything else that had lettering.

Let that all dry and came back with a plastic protectant of some sort and applied to all the rubber hoses and plastic pieces (being very careful not to get any on the belts).

Dusted my hands off and went and took a nap.

I’ve actually thought about it, but then I probably would neglect mine, so I decided not to pursue the thought. Granted my Jeep’s engine still has all the dirt from off-roading last summer.

I don't know why, but I love seeing a clean engine bay. I clean mine with just a bunch of damp shop towels. I then throw them all in the washer by themselves before the wife finds out.

I prefer it looks as close as I can get it to look like new.

The corner. 6mi up the hill away from the lake it looks like winter as they got a huge snow that missed me.
