got a new job, but think its a scam

I took a job to earn some extra cash… my job is t go door to door and ask for samples of their water. Here’s the catch, they don’t really care about the water. They just want the peoples info to contact them and sell them stuff.

To me it just don’t seem like an honest living. I feel like I’m scamming folks. Am I just paranoid or am I participating in a telemarketing scam?
