???? fuses blowing???????

Ok here is the problem

my brother has an 1995 Honda Accord ( and no it is not a ricer). But his system consist of 2 amps. The first amp is an volfenhang 500 watts 2 channel amp. This amp runs his inside speakers.And is fuses at 60 amps. The second amp he has is an lightning audio s1000.1d. This is where the problem starts. See he is pushin two VC2 10s they are in a v-tech ported box. See the amp has 3 40amp fuses in it yielding 120 amps ( which i think that they did not really come with it). He has 8 gauge wire runnnin to it off an fused distributor block. With an 80 amp fuse in it. The problem is that the freakin fuse keeps blowin. I kno u are sayin that he amp is rated at 120 amps and that is why. BUt the fuse that he has on the 4 gauge wire under the hood that supplies the power to the distributor block is only 60 amps and it never blows.

it'll blow the fuse closest 2 it first... sounds like u should upgrade that fuse... put a 100-150 amp anl fuse on it... http://www.knukonceptz.com has the distribution block that i have... 0/1 - 4 gauge input and 2 4 gauge outputs... with digital readout on the block...

i doubt that amp is pushing rated power, but if it's blowing fuses like that there's current somewhere...

upgrade the fuses.

lol ya'll are off the chain but if i up grade the fuse block then i have to up grade the inline fuse under the hood.

How about this, See the distributor block has 3 inputs. Seeing as the input block is already hot. WHat if i use one of those inputs an run a 4 gauge wire to the amp and get an Anl fuse holder to put on the wire. will that work???????

I'm going to answer your original post.

For 4GA wire you should use around a 125A (not higher) inline fuse next to the battery. This varies with wire length.

On a foot long 8GA run you would be safe with a 120A fuse.

Now your total draw is more than your wire can carry so get used to blowing fuses or upgrade your wire.

no... u might blow the one up under the hood then... just upgrade the main fuseblock 2 a fuse with a rating closest 2 the sum of all the fuses in the amps... then fuse each amp at the distribution block accordingly

Do this and you will have a fire. FUSES PROTECT WIRE!!!!
The adjuster looks at it today and says that the wire overheated "most likely due to too much power in the wire."
