Faceplate location

I just purchased a 1997 Taurus GL and it still has the factory TAPE DECK!!!!!!!!

I visited my Ford dealer and he told me that there would not be any way to remove that faceplate to install a regular CD player. He suggested that I use a RF unit and pipe the tunes in through the ant. Sounds kind of screwed to me.

I have been looking on the net for this faceplate and come up with nothing. I have seen the plate used in other cars but no one will page me back.

If yall know of a site please let me know. Tape deck is FUBAR anyway. AM/FM is driving me crazy no rock stations, only country, feel as if I may go out of my head.

*caugh* ******** *caugh* He's full of crap, don't go to the dealer when you ask for that stuff. Dial 180055eclipse to find the closest eclipse dealer, and chances are, if they're selling eclipse, they'll either have a faceplate adapter or they can just build you a fiberglass replacement or something of the like.

Ford had similarly annoying dash designs for a few years... my sister's '97 escort had the same problem. However, there are aftermarket adaptors fitted to those vehicles.

Metra has one.

I'm sure that Scosche does as well.

scosche makes a kit for the taurus, it replaces the whole oval and you mount your A/C controls on it. It looks fairly decent too.

Thanks for the replies guys, I did check the Scosche site and the faceplate is $128. Sounds a little expensive to me but if that is my only option then I will have to get it.

The Metra one can be found for about $70-80. Link

The two look different, for some reason (the controls are in different locations). But both claim to work for a '97 Taurus. So pick the one that matches the stock layout, I'd suggest.
