I just bought a Eclipse mp3/navigation/dvd player (AVN 2454) for my car and am trying to figure out exactly how it names its song titles in the mp3 mode. It is a touch screen so in cases where I have a lot of mp3's by the same artist, it seems to have a funny way of naming and numbering the songs.
For example on my "Jimmy Eat World" mp3's, it lists the songs as buttons buttons (touch the button and it plays the song) as:
Jimmy_EA
Jimmy_E2
Jimmy_E3
Jimmy_E4
Jimmy_E5
Jimmy_E6
Jimmy_E7
Jimmy_E8
Jimmy_E9
Jimmy_10
Jimmy_11...and all the way to Jimmy_22
There isnt a way it can list the artist and title since the touch-screen button is limited to 8 characters.
The Jimmy_EA file starts at songs titled with an "A" and the Jimmy_22 file is the one ending in "Z" So basically I figured that it lists the songs alphabetically with Jimmy_EA first to Jimmy_22 last. So if I wanted a song titled "A Praise Chorus", I would assume it is the Jimmy_EA or Jimmy_E2 file. If I wanted a song titled "The Authority Song", I would assume it would be at the end Jimmy_21 or Jimmy_22 file.
QUESTION: Why doesnt it just list Jimmy_01 to Jimmy_22 instead of the weird lettering of "E's"?
Then just when I thought I figured it out how the deck worked, I looked at another artist "Fink". It orders it as the following names:
Fink__2
Fink__3
Fink__4
Fink__5
Fink__6
Fink__7
Fink__B
Fink__D
Fink__E
Fink__F
Fink__J
Fink__N
So following the same idea as the "Jimmy Eat World", I thought Fink__B would be the songs titles that started with an "A" or "B" (one of the beginning letters of the alphabet). But instead, the "numbers" group Fink__2 through Fink__7 had their own grouping of songs titled A through Z while the "letters" group Fink__B through Fink__N had their own grouping of songs titled A through Z. I couldnt understand how the deck picked and labeled it. The album is the same too.
It's almost as if it randomly assigned a selected few songs to one group (Fink__2 through Fink__7) and a selected few songs to the other group (Fink__B through Fink__N) and then alphabetized it within each group. This doesn't match how the previous example was set up.
QUESTION: How come it randomly assigns songs into the two different groups and then alphabatizes them in the two groups?
Sometimes there is some consistency but other times its completely random. Does anyone have experience as to why this is so? I checked the manual but it doesnt indicate how it is assigned. I label and name all my songs perfectly in Nero, so it is not a Nero issue.
I called Eclipse but the reps weren't too sure.
Thanks
