Does this sound rediculous?

Would be overkill to put (2) 15"s, (3) 12"s, and (2) 10"s in a SUV. Different subs for different frequencies. 15s to drop hard and 10s to get tight bass response.

Get a good pair of 15's and the others aren't needed. Get 6 good 10's and the others aren't needed. 10's will go just as low as 15's it just takes more of them to get as loud. Good 15's will be just as tight as any other sub. It wouldn't be overkill, but it would be a waste of time and money.

possibly, i'm not an expert on cancellation, but some of the frequencies could cancell out.

If you are using separate amps and active crossovers for each size, cancellation wouldn't be a problem. Getting them to sound like a coherent sub system will be almost impossible, though.
