Do I gotta use wood to make an enclosure for rear deck speakers?

cause I'd sure hate to. plus it won't look right and wouldn't be very manageable -

some speakers mounted to the rear deck like you normally would, then a wood box without the top face, and then that box glued to the underside of the deck?

what's the easiest, reasonable, less compromising thing to get the rear deck speakers separated from the airspace of a sub in the trunk?

Get foam baffles and glass them, may be a little small though.

Build a new trunk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Seriously though, xtc foam baffles then a layer of mat 5-7 oz , and a layer of cloth will accomplish the same thing as the wood. I'm assuming you mean 6 x 9's or 6 1/2's that won't require a huge box. Remember though most speakers of this size are designed to work in the free air enviroment of the trunk. Yea they would be the 6x9 shape since that's the design of the rear deck, but 6.5s are gonna go back there; I cut the 6x9->6.5 adapters to fit my cl-61s.

I think glassing the foam baffles would be pretty easy/doable, but as for quality...I don't know. Cause I've read some people's responses to using them, and weren't satisfied. My main function is to just separate the air space as easy as possible without making any BIG compromises.

I will try the baffles though (can't always go off of everyone else's word); however, any other reasonable suggestions?

just received the baffles saturday and so I glassed them.

now how to get them attached to the bottom of the rear deck?

1. tried using electrical tape but didn't stick real well

2. was gonna use a hot glue gun but when I hooked the gun up to my DC->AC adapter inside the car, I kept on hearing this chime or beep (which I don't hear when I have my mp3 player hooked charging off the adapter) so didn't wanna risk anything.

So basically I'm gonna have to heat the gun up upstairs (3rd floor) then run out to the car and try to use it. Then do it again for the other baffle. (note: no garage)

so what else may work? (basically anything that requires electricity is out the question)...

I have a question about the change in frequency response caused by putting an enclosure on 6"x9"s in the rear deck. Should they be of a certain size? Will it be a change for the better or worse? Or just different?

first did you have your car running running? mine has a beep to let you know your battery is almost dead so if the car was off that might be why...if not who knows. Why dont you get an ext. cord and run it down stairs?

- car was not running

- because I never get a parking spot right out in front...my spot is always at least 3 buildings away or on another block; it'd have to be like millions of feet long..
