do baffles hurt or help midbass

im asking if it helps or hurts your midbass output =) lol

rather than just leaving em kinda free air in your door (granted you can deaden door but would the smaller space be good ina way?)

well foam or something better.. what if you took like X amount of mfd speaker rings and stacked them + sealed em off... or ported them slightly

and dont mention widnows hitting yet - thats not part of this question lol

They killed midbass and muddied up my midrange like crazy in my install with them. I would NOT recommend using them as they come. I used the 7" versions and cut the backing out of them and about 2/3 of the bottom. Basically, I made them look like this:

I did this to protect them from water but I really wouldn't recommend using them the way they come.

If you want to seal or port your mids, make sure you have plenty of space to dedicate for them. Sealing your midbass in too small of an enclosure will destroy your midbass response and can add nasty peaks in the midrange (exactly what the foam baffle pieces did to me). The same can happen ported as well.

It depends on the mid in question. Some like a really small enclosure. Most car audio mids were intended to be run IB and therefore work poorly in an enclosure other than a really big sealed one. Deaden the door and isolate the inside of the door from the inside of the car. You'll usually get better results that way.

Does the foam itself have an effect on the sound waves you think? I was wondering, i know foam is gonna "flex" so to speak, and in turn wouldn't that kill some of the output etc. due to cancellation? I have been thinking of taking a set and glassing the backside so that they are rigid. However if that didn't have a desirable effect, i would just cut the back out leaving a tube of sorts and try that. You guys have any opinions on how that kind of modding them would effect sound output.

helo already told you the answer. Most car audio mids are designed to run IB, and placing thm in a small enclosure will severly limit their low-end capabilities. Putting a tube in it may or may not get the desired effect (IB). Only use those 'baffles' for weather protection, cut out as shown above to keep the IB alignment.

Nothing else to say about them.

so that is without a doubt the be all end all answer. A component set that installs into a kick panel enclosure is sealed isn't it? I am just wondering. I am not doubting you know more than me etc. . Can i determine by my component sets specs whether or not they would do ok in an enclosed area such as what i mentioned? What is the recommended product for sound deadening around here if all my other attempts fail?

just looking for info not drama.
