ok,,so im trying to build my box and i remember,,,hey my brother builds cabinets for a living..duh............so i call him and he says yea he can cut whatever however, and has plenty of wood down at the shop.......i tell him it has to be 3/4 inch MDF......well, he says there is alot of wood that is MDF....said particle board is mdf..........is he on crack or what..........is there different kinds,,,what kind do i need..........he said that they use the stuff they have for cabinets

Particle board is not MDF

There are several flavors of MDF and HDF with different grades.. The stuff I have is construction/contractor quality which is alot better than what you would get at home depot/lowes. I have heard it called cabinet/door grade.

-Then theres more expensive MDO and HDO

-Theres LDF which is sometimes called Particle board but in reality they're different. LDF is also rare compared to other fiberboards

-Then theres HDP which is High Density Plywood, Expensive.

-Particle board is PBC, Cheapest, Crappiest

-Oriented Strand Board or OSB has large chunks of wood chips, its commonly used in construction

Any *df has fibers in it, Particle board does not. The only thing they have in common is they're both pressed and both are commonly used panel boards
