Diamond Audio Hex's are weak

OK, I have the hex 5.25 component set being pushed by a JL 300/2. I tuned the amplifier according to JL recomendations with my alpine H/U at 27. I have NEVER turned my H/u up past 22 with the speakers hooked up because it becomes uncomfortable at that point. I normally listen at 18-22. At these levels I should only be pushing about 100 watts into my comps and I have blown 2 sets of tweets already. Diamond Audio can take a hike.

What 5.25 CDT comp set would you recomend? The Diamonds are going in the trash.

I don't care about price. I care about sound. I rechecked my X-Overs and they are set exactly where they where before. I used a tone generator on the wires before I hooked them up to ensure that my tweets were on the right set of wires and I ran the tweets at -2db as they are soft domes and I didn't want to overpower them. These tweets just keep blowing. I have even diconnected my 5.25 to have a listen and make sure that no midbass was getting into the tweets. It was fine. They just keep popping. I am so tired of taking my doors off at this point and I just want to be able to listen!!

I have already bought the add on 6.5 midbass kit for these, but I don't think I am going to put them in if I have to keep replacing tweets every week :/

You're the first one that I know with Diamonds that this problem. I am powering Diamond comps with 125 watts rms each channel and I have no problems at all. I'm guessing you have defective equipment, or something is wrong with the installation. *****

that sure does ****. Cause I have a set of Diamond Audio Hex s500a comps and love the hell out of them. I am running a clean 150 watts to them with a PPI PC2150 and they take it like a champ. I have the same HU as you too. I do however need to adjust my tweets on the crossover to -2db cause my only complaint is that at high levels of 22-27 they are a little harsh, but that is all. easily fixable especially once I get my EQ installed again.

sorry to hear they are going in the trash.

Don't have any experience with the Diamond's so can't comment. However, I love my CDT 6.5 Braxial unit's with additional Ti tweeters at the front windshield for front staging.

Running 150 watts each to fronts. Cdt crossover's have specific wiring connections for both the tweeters on the Braxials and separately for the tweets at the front windshield. They have the 51/4 unit but I'd sure try to fit the 6.5's.

Good luck.

I'm a little late on this but the hex tweeters will burn real easy with clipping-you're your own worst eniemy on this one - a volume level means jack s**t as all music is recorded at different levels. learn how to listen for clipping

Clipping (if all amps are gained correctly and leveled) will ramp your volume quickly as you turn the volume up-reason being your adding distortion to the sound. Your tweets will sound shrill and have high silibance, Your bass will become poppy and/or muddy and if your stupid to push it further your mids will crackle. When you are turning up the volume you will hear it increase in a steady fashion but when you get to the clipping point it will get loud very quickly. This is the easiest way I can explain it?
