I’m trying to set up a budget system in my Prelude...nothing crazy, but I would like it to sound good.
What I already have: a low dollar pioneer double din, which I’m thinking about replacing, because it only has two pre outs, I would prefer front, rear, and sub outs, plus I would like to upgrade to 4 or 5 volt pre outs, so if anyone could suggest a good model, please let me know.
I also have some old, but nice Boston 6 1/2 coaxial in the doors, 1 Alpine type R 12” first gen, (dual 4olhm Vc) running off an Alpine mvr 500.1
The 6x9s are stock.
I just picked up a very lightly used JL audio JX 400/4 D....and need 6x9s!
I have no idea where to even turn, because my go to speaker company, is now only into home audio......damn you Boston Acoustics!!!!!
With so much crap out there in today’s market, I don't want make a mistake! I’ve had a set of Memphis 6x9s, and I thought they were pretty nice, and I’ve also had the expensive pioneers, which were also nice, but I think the Memphis had better sound quality. I’ve also had old school Diamond Audio separates that we’re sweet, but how do they stack up now?
I’ve also had a set of MB Quart a axel 6.5s that didn’t last a month....pretty expensive for complete garbage!
To be clear, I don’t want Rockford Fosgate, or Kicker crap!
I’ve had several amps, and speakers from both manufacturers.....utter disappointment!
Just for a bit of history, I have been installing systems since I was a kid...I have had everything from mild, to insane, but I’ve been out of the game for a bit...now I’ve caught the bug again!
I still remember when I first installed my system in my old 1980 Chevy Malibu...I bought a Soundstream Reference 705, two Soundstream spl 15s a set of Boston pro 6.5s, and the expensive old school pioneer 6x9s (the ones with the big magnet) in 6x9 enclosures....I haven’t heard a system like that Ever! I was blown away by how much air those spls could push...it was amazing! It was also amazing how clean the Reference 705 was.
