DD 9515 or XXX

I am looking for a great spl sub to buy for my tantrum or jbl 1200.1. I need the best spl but if the prices arent too different i'd also like the XXX if the sq is there. Please could u post the price of each one, i only have about 700 bucks to play wit for the sub and i'd prefer the 15" version. Thanx guys, also let me know how u like ur subs if u have one of these!

Well, the 9515e will get louder than the xxx, but the xxx will retain higher SQ. XXX is out of stock and $399 + shipping. MSRP on the 9515 will be over $600, but you can probably find them cheaper, although I do not know where.

Oh, I used to run a 9512e, but it was too loud for me. And as with a lot of SPL subs, it still sounded great at volumes that you could actually listen to. It only got muddy after my ears started hurting...

Then why are you comparing an spl sud (the dd) and a sq sub (xxx)?

I think people are getting confused as to what type of driver the xxx is. The dd 9515 will absolutely destroy a xxx in spl its not even in the same league (spl wise). If you want the most spl out of the two subs then get the dd, but if you want a sub that can get loud (not as loud as the dd) and retain good sq get the xxx.

OK does ne one know if my DD will run well off of a jbl 1200.1 or a tantrum 1200.1? i'm confused when reading the sight, it says 1200 rms, then 2400 music power, and 4800 peak power? is rms the one i'm looking for? and if so please tell me if these amps will be enough....

when looking at power ratings RMS is the ONLY thing that matters, not peak, or dynamic ONLY RMS

A Tantrum would work well on either driver ... just get the correct coil configuration on the woofer.

I had to throw 2000+ RMS on a 9515 to get it to do something decent. Mind you, it was just for SPL and was in massive box ... that and I'm never satisfied. Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice driver and would work with either amp. Likewise for the XXX.

There's a possibility that the Tantrum won't do sh*t.

Get the JBL 1200.1

I've ran both. The Tantrum 1200.1 probably only did 200 watts, literally. That was the only amp I've ever owned that didn't put anywhere even close to it's rated power. It didn't even MOVE my sub. I hooked my HIfonics afterward, and then I was bumpin'.

There are also some other unsatisfied people that own/have owned a Tantrum 1200.1 on this site.

If your going ported/vented, you MIGHT wanna take a chance with the tantrum bcuz it has a SubSonic Filter. MIGHT wanna.

If you have a true 12v electrical system, you probably WERE only getting 250 watts.

DD 9500 series have successfully been used to break records in SPL and has also won awards in the SQ dept.
