Engineered Wood. While I would have no problem with vinyl, to be socially accepted, I am talking about the wood.
It depends what you get, but one major weakness can be how well it stands up to moisture, standing water. If you have standing water on some of the more economical products it can start to warp very quickly. They do say, however, that the urethane top coat on the cheaper floors can stand up to more wear. However, you cant resurface it the way you can with a real wood floor, or ply floor.

however, however, however,

I see.

Is this considered economical?

The whole deal looks like it's going to cost me about $1k if I do it myself, which others says can be done easily. Just curious if people cut it with a table saw or what. Most of the clowns I see who bought it when I worked at Lowe's tended to have no tools.

Table saw works. Hell you can even use a hand held circular.

But yes, that stuff is easy to put down, just keep it out of areas where moisture will be allowed to stand on it. I.E. Kitchen.

You may be able to find some with the pad built in as well.

I am assuming you are talking about that green pad at the bottom or an additional pad. This stuff is maybe 1/8" thick foam type stuff. Recalculating, it's going to be much more than $1k to do the living room and hall. I don't want it in the BRs. I like the carpet my mom has...i think it is called frieze...but the cat would ruin it. This mf'er is almost more trouble than it's worth.

I would definitely find a good name, I let a previous tenant redo the floors in our condo and it only lasted about 3 years before it started to fade and buckle. She had two kids so it was definitely high traffic but still should not go that quick.
She may have gotten some cheap off brand shit at Big Lots for all I know but I went with real wood in our current condo for that reason. 4 years and it still looks brand new though we do take our shoes off when we get in the house.

That is one reason I like Florida houses, a lot of people have large tiles and sometimes an area rug which means you can just toss the rug when it gets old and get a new one without it being a major project.

It would look silly up here though I can't say I have seen it before in this area or in the north in general.
Is Pergo a good name? This stuff supposed to have a 25 year guarentee.

I don't like the real wood...on all the houses I have been that had it you could see where they nailed it down.

some of it will have that thin foam pad glued to the bottom of the pieces.

One advantage to an floating engineered wood floor is that it can be replaced very easily. Had to do some of that over Xmas break, in one of the rentals the tenants have always had dogs, and in places where they (the dogs, not the tenants //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif) pissed on the floor it had buckled. Was a simple matter of popping out the old pieces and fitting new ones.

I hate wall-to-wall carpet. If I ever buy a house with it, that's the first thing coming out.

Then they did a lazy job of it. If it's toenailed properly you can't see any nails.

Dunno. No matter the house, I can always see it. But then again, I am looking for it, not walking around and trip over it. I don't see the nail, but the change in the wood where the nail was driven...if that makes sense.

Yes I have never seen nails on a hard wood floor in my life and every house I have ever lived in has had them. my guess would be a half-assed mexican job.
On that note I am very angry tonight and my shift is over so I think it's time for a break from the internets, back for another 14 hours tomorrow though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
I thought you quit your job?
