I think that abortion thread is interesting. Tired, same ole, same ole debate. But how normal, sane people tend to take the position of "I don't want to force my views down someone else's throat" approach. I think that is a good position to have. I wish we could adopt it on other issues.

I rented a rug dr once and I think it got more on the floor than it cleaned up.

I am going to get my carpets cleaned to see how it compares to a laminate floor. If the carpet cleaning does a great job, I just may keep the carpet.

The carpet usually looks good right after the cleaning, but it seems like you get back pretty close to where you were before too long.

I don't spill stuff on it. I believe the stains come from two places.

1. Tracking in the kitchen (where shoes are allowed) to the living room (where they aren't) somehow dirt from the kitchen gets on my socks or something and then I track it in the living room. I am not sure what I can do to remedy this.

2. When the cat gets sick, she vomits on the floor. Sometimes it comes up cleanly, sometimes it doesn't.

Then there is this black marks from the rug dr that never came up.
