he does at the end. he's thinking about it for insurance purposes
His insurance shouldn't care. It isn't home wiring he is passing through the wall. It is just a plug from an appliance. There are no codes(that I know of) stating they can't be ran through a wall without a J box. Seems overkill to me.

Of course things are more relaxed here in FL. I know up north in Illinois/Indiana, you won't find home wiring routed throughout homes and walls without using conduit. Here in FL they just knock holes through studs and route romex through it. I don't know how strict things are in TN.

i'm like you. i'd jus route it through the wall no problem, however it was brought up that he is going to have to do something abut the studs since he is moving it aprox. 3ft and will likly run into 1 or more studs.

Yes if he is relocating the 120 outlet horizontally then yes he will have issues. However it still wouldn't be too hard depending on how much space is in his attic. He could just take a run from the outlet that is existing and go up to the attic, then drill a hole where he wants another box horizontally and run the romex down that way. If he plans on doing that then yes a J-box is a necessity. I just wouldn't bother with moving or adding an outlet. I am not anal though either. I figure as long as the majority of the cables are managed in some fashion then I can have one stray power cable on the floor to the outlet.

So in the end, not being anal + a little lazy FTMFW!

My onkyo 696 showed up last night. I got a killer deal, it looks like it was barely used. Too bad I dont have any HT speakers to hook it up to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I thought/think that I would need the j box to affix the wall plate. As in that wall plate I posted won't screw into drywall.
From what I have seen in homes, the wire does not have a protective covering. It is just run along baseboards, ceilings, etc. No conduit except outside.
No. You don't need a J box for the plate you posted. My picture will explain how it is affixed to the wall with no box. It is simple.

Relocation of outlet is not necessary imo.

never fear. snoop is here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Good times

I'm still buying the maggies when I get back from georgia. I like my speakers like I like my women, nice and thin.
I still say it is a mistake from a performance standpoint but from a sexy want to hump style aspect it is a fine choice. Maggies really make me torn //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
