Sorry I did not explain right, they will kneed anything but like they seem to only do damage to things with a hard backing like couch arms etc. When they do it on soft things they don't puncture usually so it does not typically cause damage.
I also keep my cats nails clipped about every 2 weeks, so that will also help or you can try the softpaws but those are a PITA.
