He kept arguing that it mattered that the treadmill was not moving at the EXACT same speed as the plane the whole time. I then told him that the plane was not fighting the backward drag of the treadmill, only friction and gravity since the wheels are independent of the engine creating forward force. He than asked something like, "Fucking answer me, if a car's engine was not connected to the wheels, would it fly?" I then told him I'd go rip out his transmission and see if he could get it to the treadmill he wanted to test his flying car theory at.
