I was not really thinking in terms of individual habits. I was thinking more about the political will to develop alternatives to oil.

My wild *** speculation is that we need to use this as one measure to buy us time while we develop long term alternatives.
Won't happen though. We have shown in the past how complacent band aids make us, until the same **** problem bites us on the *** and we begin crying again.

Of course it will make some difference and possibly help level it off sooner as it will relieve the burden of exporters getting us the crude we demand.
I still feel that isn't a good enough reason. It will still be a band aid as we set right back off again in our gluttonous ways until the offshore drilling isn't helping and we still have no alternatives. It just isn't a solution, so Why?

Plus, I really do not see the downside. We would have more oil that we control -- which may mitigate the effects of any crisis in the middle east.

If we don't tap into it I guess China will come over and relieve us of the dillema. I think I would rather have U.S. companies drilling.

F that. Let em have it. If we let it helps us in the most direct manner then the more we will rest on our laurels and stop worrying about a true solution. Bring on the prices!

You make very valid points there. I think I will change my opinion on this subject, and support the shortage for now.

Could be, but there is no viable alternative right now.
Which is why need the poilitical will to develop alternatives. We have an inevitable problem that we are not currently prepared to handle.

If we need to lock a bunckh of really smart jews in a room like we did with the Manhatten Project then let's do it.

We can fly to the moon (theoretically) but we don't have an alternative to this.

There probably isn't one.

This will be the new differentiator of social class. Those that can afford gas, and those that cannot. It will replace the old differentiator of those that could afford cars and those that took public transportation.

I find it amusing that so many people are backing things like hydrogen as a power source, when in fact, the process just to get that to work is as bad if not worse than oil.
Hydrogen is such a sham. Take way more energy to make and would pull off the national grid HARD! Lets fill the air with more coal smoke, so we don't have our cars producing emissions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I personally like ethanol. Some can come from sugar recovery and numerous crops can produce it. Some fear it may hurt the national food supply, but I think we would catch up and balance it out just like anything else. Fully electric is nice, battery charging is more efficient than hydrogen but they just **** in terms of driving lol

I like the idea of ethanol too. If Indy cars can do 200+ MPH on it, I'll put it in my vehicle.

Fully electronic is stupid. Why do you think your electric bill is going to double next month? Because it takes epic amounts of oil to make the electricity.

Now, if we could pull off electricity produced by electricity, we'd be on to something.

It doesn't take a lot of electricity to charge these newer cells. My pool pump is hella more inneficient and it still csot me less to run than gas in my car each month. It still gay to drive.
