The auctioning is part of the game.

The only made up rule I allow is that all taxes and fines are placed under free parking. Landing on free parking is like winning the lotto.

I play that house rule as well.

I am iffy on the free parking. On one hand, it makes the game more interesting and fun. On the other hand, hitting free parking a couple times allows one to get back in the game when they had the inferior strategy.

This is different from real life how? There are plenty of lucky mofos walking around with a ton o cash.
