I love my pioneer vsx-816k. It's a great budget receiver. Course if I had to do it over I would have gotten the 1018(I think that's the model number).

yeah I can't troubleshoot it but seriously for the price range you have, I'd look into the 1018 or the 816k. The 816 got nice reviews in magazines and on cnet. If the budget was a little more I'd say Denon.

My budget is always increasing/decreasing. When I looked at the Denon products, they didn't seem very powerful.
Plus, I am thinking of just doing a two channel kind of thing.

if you are just going 2.1 or something of that nature just get a rotel setup. Is this for music or movies?

I'm not sure......my dad gave it to me, it's just some simple small center channel. I love my setup, I think it sounds awesome for a college student. I mean it's nothing compared to what Joetama is running but people always say something about the setup I run.
