So can anyone else figure this out.
It is 70* outside. I have my air conditioner on in my apartment it is outputting air that is 58.3*. There are no electronic devices or heat producing sources running. No sun today for solar heat (normally the shades and my blackout curtains are down anyway). There is nothing in my apartment that would hold heat from days past. Yet it is 78* is my apartment and if I shut the A/C off the temperature jumps quickly to 80* and keeps rising.

I live on the 3rd floor with one outside wall. The hallway is always hot *** hell and I think everyone in the building has the same problem as me. My total Sq Footage is in the high 600 low 700 ft range. The A/C unit is a 8,000 BTU.

Anyone got a clue? I'd open the window but it is raining and the rain comes in my windows. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Window unit? That's not even one ton... The reason why it sucks so bad is because it's undersized and humid as **** outside, your TV, Amps, computers, fridge... shower, everything are additional loads. If it's only putting out 60* air it's not running right. the out door coil could be clogged, it may be undercharged... did he even toss gauges on it?

The odds are stacked against it, and I doubt it's all right.

If by gauges you mean his hand...

I figured it was super undersized. 8,000 BTU isn't very much, my *** produces more heat. What size would you recommend Jason? Because that is what I"m going to make them put in. There is a 220/240 plug so it can take the big power ones.

I'm assuming it is clogged and undercharged. The air conditioner its self sets in a metal box. Also, the condenser moisture pools in the bottom of the unit and has actually ran out the front before. The fan sound more like a paddle wheel than a fan.

I could actually size the space, but... yeah.... I don't have time for that right now.... gimmie a week maybe an I could actually calculate the proper cooling load for the apartment. (well, a good round about guess anyway.)

When you turn it on, does it run basically all day?

It runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Well if you had to pick a number, I don't need anything fancy. Just a number. 10,000 15,000 BTU?

I'm going to tell them I had a heating and cooling professional come in and figure out what size and power A/C unit was needed for this size of apartment. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The guy was in my apartment for all of about 5 minutes. He looked at my temperature gauge. Looked at the A/C (glanced at it) and said will it looks like it's big enough. He said the reason he thought it wasn't cooling my apartment enough was I had the thermostat set to 65 not to it's minimum 60 degrees. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif He also told me a lot of the other apartments have crappier air conditioners than mine. They don't have digital displays... Yep he said that, "some of them have manual knobs they have to turn". Huh? I didn't know a digital control made the A/C function better...

shows how much u know.

It doesn't setting it to 60 when it won't get to 65 is pointless.

Have them actually fix the unit first. I HIGHLY doubt that they're going to replace your unit just because you said so. (No offense)

Start with having them check the charge and clean the coils. Is this an all in one package unit or is there an outdoor condensing unit somewhere?

There is no reason that 70* air should be acceptable. Even if it's undersized, it will put out a lot cooler air than that.

You can start with a big shit fit at first if you like, but it won't get you a new unit. I can't write you an invoice so what I say doesn't really matter. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Right now it is outputting air that is 57.7* Normal or not?

I honestly doubt the guys here are smart enough to clean an air conditioner or charge the coils. They came to check my garbage disposal (which is rusted solid) and flipped the power switch and it made noise, so it must be working. I even told them exactly what was wrong with it. I don't know how much simpler you can get than that "The plate which grinds the food is rusted solid to the outer housing". I since have ripped it out and installed a piece of normal drain pipe. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif Hey my drain doesn't clog now and my kitchen doesn't smell like rotting food from the R-Tards that lived here before me! Amazing.

Anyway, they said if my apartment doesn't start cooling they were going to bring an air conditioner for my bedroom. He also said as long as the unit is putting out cold air (cold to his hand, which just about anything feels cold in an 81* apartment) there isn't anything they could do. But, it sucks because I don't turn on my TV (don't want it to be damaged from the heat), don't listen to my stereo (can't enjoy it with RMMRMRMRMRMRMRRMRMRMRMRR running in the background), can't sleep because it's too hot, can't see because I have to have all the shades closed all the time or it heats up to 85*+. I'm honestly hoping right now that running it 24/7 burns something up in it. Any trick to help burn up an A/C? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I'm going to go around to my neighbors that I'm friendly with and see if they are having any problems. I saw them about a weekago rolling a new A/C unit in for someone down the hall. 15,000 BTU but with the old crappy analog controls... OH MY!!!

Oh and no offense taken. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Here's a little quick reference... http://www.consumerenergycenter.org/home/heating_cooling/window_ac.html

It may have been sized only for the living room, but since the kitchen is effectively the same space it's undersized no matter what.

For the whole Apartment I'd say you'd want a 14,000 btuh unit.... minimum. You've got a kitchen attached, the bathroom shower will add a hell of a latent load, you're on one of the higher floors in the building....

I'm working on the assumption now that this is a packaged window unit. Ask for a new unit, since it's unrealistic to service those things anyway. When the 8k unit was installed it was probably to get some cooling in there to shut some one up.

If were talking window units... Get what you need, raise hell. I've seen a lot of weird shit in apartments... hence why I was unsure, but it sounds like a window unit.

Yahtzee. Raise hell. Get the right size this time.
Werd.

I plan on it.

I was figuring around 14,000 Btu, but it is good to have an educated opinion.

I think I might take the front off it off tonight and see if there is anything I can short out. If its totally broke I'll get a new one faster. I blame my father, he taught me bad things.

My boss is angry with me. Our truck came in and I unloaded a box off of it that said "MADE IN SOUTH AFRICA".

I picked it up and asked her where she wanted me to put her big box of aids at.
