hoss, if you've got the one that has two spring-loaded catch things that attach the HU's chassis to the cage somehow.
I do not know how to explain what I'm talking about, exactly, since I do not know exactly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

nG tells me the cage I need is the old-style Alpine cage (remembering the unit in question is a CDA-7930) which isn't the same as the more current version.

Apparently there are some kind of spring-loaded deals that attach to both the front of the cage and the front of the HU's chassis.

I wish I actually had a clue wtf I was talking about but I am sorely at a loss when it comes to Alpine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I love that song...

Did you have one hanging around in your Bin 'O Stuff, there, Mr Mod Dude??

Indeed.

It appears that I may be going with the old Kenwood tape deck after all. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
I have a cage, but I'm not so sure about the spring catches man.

Get me a close up pic of the sides of the bare deck...

nG -

While I do greatly appreciate any time you invested in hunting for this I have some pretty awesome news - get this:

I was hunting around online to see if I could locate the cage and the catches that I need. Well, via a link on Alpine's website I happened across PacParts.com.

PacParts lists the OEM cage as being discontinued but a replacement being available.

Not wanting to spend money on more stuff I don't need/can't use I give a call to Alpine's tech support armed with the part number from PacParts' website to verify that what they were selling was actually what I need.

So I get hooked up with this CS rep by the name of Jeremy.

I explain to Jeremy about what you told me about needing a different type of cage than Alpine currently uses which utilizes the spring-loaded deals that attach the HU's chassis to the sleeve. I give him the part number to get him to verify whether or not what PacParts has as being what I need.

He tells me that the cage is the correct part # but when I ask him if it will also come with the spring-loaded deals he tells me No. I then hear him madly typing away in the background and he tells me he's looking for a source for the clips I need.

After searching for a few minutes he then tells me, "You know? I think I might have some of those clips laying around here - hold on a second and let me go look to see."

So I'm on hold for like 5 minutes or so...

When he comes back on the line he tells me, "You know, man? I have one of those older Alpine units myself (what a surprise considering who he works for, right?) and I know how much of a pain it can be to locate parts like this once the model in question gets a few years old. Give me your mailing address and I'll send those out to you."

information is given over...

So Jeremy proceeds to tell me that tomorrow morning he'll be shipping out not only the clips that I need but the small screws that attach said clips to the side of the HU's chassis and the cage as well! When I ask him what I'll owe him for that he tells me nothing.

So - for the cost of a phonecall (free since it was a 1-800 #) I'm getting the cage, the clips, and the screws to put the clips on the deck for free! Not even paying shipping!

How cool is that, huh?

I've never been a fan of Alpine but I have to say my two experiences with their CS department up to this point have been pretty impressive.

My first one was when I called asking how to enable the subwoofer preouts on this same deck since Alpine no longer carries the manual for it on their site.

Well, the CS rep had no access to a copy of it either but being the very unusual CS rep that he was ~ he actually had a brain. He dug through Alpine's catalog for the year the CDA-7930 was new to see what models fell just below it and just over it to see if any of those manuals were available.

Looking through the manual for whatever model fell just under the 7930 that year he found the instructions to enable the Sub preouts on that deck and the process was the same for the 7930.

So - synapsis......I give Alpine's Tech Support department a very enthusiastic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

Those guys (at least the two that I have talked to) are on the freggin' ball, man!!

You know Prowlah? After hearing that description of the part, I am wondering if it's not the exact same part as on Eclipse decks...... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
