Only problem is, if the place you are planning on collecting your 'free' oil from has a oil dumpster in the back, that oil legally belongs to the collection company, who likely uses it to make petfood or biodiesel, and they WILL take you to court.....
Also, to do this with ensured reliability, you need to filter the oil to 20 microns, and then again to 5 microns or less, and with veggie oil, or most used oils (depends on weight, useage, etc.) you need to reheat the oil to 80+ degrees (5 microns is SMALL, air filter small!)
diesel fuel injection uses way way smaller injectors, and much much much higher pressure injection pumps to atomize the heavier fuel, and promote better combustion, and these parts are VERY small, VERY easy to clog, and VERY expensive!!!! PD-style injectors are ~$400 per cylinder, and a distributor-style injection pump is $1000+
Also, if you are planning on using vegetable oil, it's essential to keep it heated before use if the weather is less than ~60 degrees outside, which means keeping your factory fuel lines, tank, pump, and using some sort of switch, and if your engine is accidently left off without making sure your fuel system is completely flushed of veggie oil, and replaced by dino-fuels, the oil will coagulate, and you wont be going anywhere soon (some diesel engines use fuel filters as large as 2 quarts, so you may have to drive 5-10 miles depending on your truck....
Using oils as fuels requires a lot of work (if you give a **** about your truck) takes a LEGAL source (legal actions from collectors get NASTY, search for stories online!!) even with proper filtration, reliability is lessened, at best fuel injectors need cleaned more often, and fuel filters will be eaten like candy. And unless you do a lot of LONG distance driving (no less than 40 mile trips, but no more than you can get from your tank of oil.....) you wont be saving enough on fuel to make it worth your while.
I used to drive a diesel myself, and when i read about this, it seemed too good to be true.
It is.
