Converting my truck to run on WASTE VEGETABLE OIL! What do you think! Look!

I was just wondering what you guys have heard about people runnign waste vegetable oil in there vehicles. I have a Powerstroke diesel truck and Ive seen quite a few on the interent that have put thousands of miles on the same truck running on free waste vegetable oil from restaraunts. Check it out.

It costs about 600 dollars for the items to convert my truck, but in my industrial wood product delivery business with my brother the fuel costs are about 1000 a week at times for our diesel trucks.

I already have the tank and a heat exchanger, two expensive items for the conversion, i also have a torch and a shop and dual battieres and working on adding my extra 130 amp alty.

What do you guys think should i do it!?

Yea, somehow it is basically the same as deisel. He will deliver a load of oil, and have like 100gallons left, he will drain the tank, and put it in the truck, and burn it.

My truck has ran on 5:1 drain oil from truck stop oil changing staions for about 20 thousand miles with no problems at all. We keep it clean and filter it out very well before mixing it precisley with the diesel fuel in each fill up.

If you're doing it the way I've read, be careful with the chemicals involved...the final product is nontoxic, but you're dealing with sodium hydroxide (lye) which in concentrated form is pretty nasty stuff to be around. In addition, the first time you run the engine off veggie oil, you're definitely going to go through a fuel filter or two, and the fuel lines may need to be changed out as well. This stuff supposedly acts like much more of a solvent than regular diesel does, so it's going to knock any sludge or buildup loose from the lines.

See if you can pick up a copy of a book called From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank...written several years ago by a couple who built a trailer with all the necessary parts for a Renault diesel van and drove cross-country on fryer fuel.

Neat stuff, and part of why I'm looking into a diesel for my next vehicle...

The local newspaper did an article a few years back about a guy who converted his golf to run on soy, and a man who got his truck to run on the oils that are leftover from chinese restaurants. Im not sure what kind of oil it is.
