cheap vs exspensive

a friend of mine and i got into an argument about line drivers he says that you dont have to buy an exspensive hu if you had a very good line driver to boost the signal and his proof comes from seeing more and more newer cars useing there stock hu because "they makem so much better these days so there is no resons to change them" but i conted that a very good hu without a line driver or a very basic line driver would kill a stock set up witch one of us is right?

i've heard a lot of systems that use the stock HU and they sound great, for simplicity, the stock HU in a lot of new cars is fine (and for cars like the mazda 3/6, its hard to change the HU anyways). but there are no features in the stock HU, like crossovers, parametric eq's, time alignment, etc.

i'd rather have the aftermarket though, just because of the features.
