CEA-2006 opinions?

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the new CEA-2006 standards for measuring amp and H/U power. I understand it's supposed to make all of the manufacturer's measure their output power with the same standard due to the fact that some manufacturers were "pumping up" there numbers to make their products seem better even though they're not.

I for one, think it is a good idea to put everyone on a even playing field, and to stop the confusion of "This amp is under-rated/over-rated".

Tell me what you think; is this CEA-2006 stuff good, or total BS.

Thanks for reading; later.

Unless everyone is on the boat it won't mean a thing. You will still see under-rated amps as well. They will guarantee the CEA power but there is nothing saying that it won't make more. The main plus will be that the distortion, power supply voltage and load impedance will be standardized meaning that you can actually compare two amps from different manufacturers and know that they are using the same standards to rate their amps rather than one company rating their stuff @ 14.4V and 10% distortion and another rating theirs more conservatively @ 12V and .5% THD.

Good stuff, but doesn't really affect me ... If you properly researched the amplifiers in the first place, you wouldn't need it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

True. I have been trying to do research on different amps, but with one measuring their stuff with a different standard then the next guy, it gets confusing to new guys like me tring to figure out who's telling the truth and who's trying to BS everyone.

Can anyone with a fair bit of experience be able to tell me which manufacturers tend to BS the public and who usually is telling the truth about there stuff?

Thanks for the input--Later.

There are very few companies that have not stretched the truth in the almost 20 years I have been in this industry. Some have stretched it so far it actually snapped back and smacked them in the head so hard they went out of business. Your best course of action is to gather information and research your potential purchases, there are many people on this site that do have the necessary background to help you along with your purchase and finding out the necessary information. Remember though, any person with a computer can be a "professional" and repeat what they read on another thread or forum or overheard at a show. You need to make yourself aware of who the real professionals in the industry are and listen and learn from them, these people like helotaxi, Jmac and maybe even myself (naw I don't know jack) will be glad to help you get pointed in the right direction.

Cheers to the guys who know jack--whoever he is. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

Thanks for the input.

Later.
