I'm not saying that the XD's aren't good shooting guns, I just don't like the way they feel in my hands. They just feel kinda awkward to me. Then again though, they are very accurate right out of the box, at least the one I shot was.

The HKs always felt a little front heavy to me... I know it's not on your list, but I'd suggest this:

Kimber Stainless Pro Carry II... I love mine. Extremelly well-balanced, easy to carry, and accurate as a MF. 4" barrel, 7 round clip comes standard but 8 round clips are available. Or, if you feel like spending a bit more:

This is the tactical version of the Stainless. Laser sight in the grip... pretty sick handgun.

And they are also quite pricey.

Even so, Kimber makes some nice guns, if you can get past the weight of a .45's kick.
