Building out my door panels

I've decided im going to fiberglass my existing door panels and build out my door pods on the bottom... than paint the entire door panel for a nice gloss look.. I have a few questions.

The door panel is about 80% vinyl, can I just strip the vinyl and resin the hell out of the foam so it keeps it shape?

or

Should I stretch some fleece over the foam first, and than resin....

also, the majority of the door panel doesnt need much strength so for the areas not by the door pod can I just resin the fleece and than sand and paint?

What do you mean by Vinyl? Like, soft stuff? Maybe some pics would help.
