Currently in the works is a new box for my type R's. They will be in a false floor, spare tire well is fiberglassed. I know it is reccomended that both subs do no share air space, but is it ok? Im going to port it somehow as well, but i need like 28 inches or something of port per sub, and i read that a 45 degree angle in the port is ok, but im not sure. So 2 chambers or 1, straight port or curved port.

It is alright to build a box for 2 subs with 1 chamber. I have read this off of numerous web sites and that is how some of the installs are done in the pros. You have to make sure that the volume of the box is correct though. My friend and I just build a box for his 1998 Mustang in the spare tire well. And he also has 2 Alpine Type-Rs. (10s) He has a lot more pictures on his computer, all I have is this one. I am sorry it is so grainy. Also, in what kind of car are you going to be putting this box?

i would not port type-r subs,a mono box is fine(not chambered)even alpine tech does not recomend porting them,i put 8 12" type r's in a escalade, and they were sealesd in mono boxes, and when i turned them on, in about 2 minutes the lens on the c.d. player broke it hit so hard,so i would seal them if u need to use same airspace,(monobox) it will be fine.

I had mine ported and Alpine sold and sells them in ported boxes. They don't have recommended specs on their websites though for ported, only sealed. I have owned a bunch of Type R 12's and I would say out of my ported vs sealed, I liked ported much better.

Just my opinion though.

yeah true i know circuit city sells them in ported boxes. I acutalyl put some ride the lightning on in there one day and cranked it all the way up to the point where the sub boxes started falling off the shelves and the sale assoiate there made me stop. I would say make a port you can seal so you can try either way. :thumbsupw

well if u were really gonna get spacific, all vented enclosers cause more distortion(which any dumb joe know distortion blows speakers) vented boxes cause more distortion than sealed boxes the also don get that tight deep bass as a sealed box does, also for all you braniac know it alls, here is a question.will it sound goos if you installed a component se of speakers in your doorwith the tweeter mounted below hte mid bass?............................................ the answer is ...yes it will sound hte best that way, why???? because if u understood the soundwaves u would know the mid bass waves would cancel them out if not mounted under, this is what we(MECP) have found to be true.read up on it in our new master intall study guide ,well i still say sealed vs,ported, yeah alpine sells the ported boxes, but htey are proto types ,the sub comes built in the box. its a trial box.cause if they recimended ported they would give you the ported airspace with each sub in hte box as they give you the sealed, well i mean if u want to port then go ahead, but i dont suggest it with those subs.but hey who am i/ im just a certified master installer w/ MECP.and IASCA judge, peace

Glad you like it. As for MECA God over there, ported enclosures offer LESS distortion through 35-60 Hz Range. Also I really don't believe that distortion kills speakers. Are you saying that if you play rock music through your stereo that it's gonna break? I think that distorted SIGNAL that is clipped will break your speakers not a properly designed sealed/ported box.
