some background: im building a system. im not looking for anything crazy for comparison most poeple ive known have had 2 12" around 800-1ktotal rms. they would hit really loud to the point where my eyeballs would shake, i dont really need that. i also know i wont be happy with just something like a powered basslink or bazooka. everything i price comes to a final price of about $400-500 but i figure if i spending cash i might as well buy something ill be happy with not just throwing away 200 bucks at a powered unit.
anyway the equipment im leaning towards:
Elemental Designs 11Kv.2 Subwoofer - 600rmsavailable in dvc 2ohm or dvc 4ohm so basically the full range of wiring options.
Phoenix Gold R8.0:1 - 600rms @ 2ohm: 2x40amp fuses so 80amp draw
im putting this into an 03 jetta and almost all other vdubs in this generation have dimming issues with something as simple as rolling up the windows.
now ive read about caps and decided not to consider buying one initially even though ive had a friend who used one successfully to eliminate dimming.
also i understand the big 3 and will be doing this in spring with a home made grounding kit which will also replace / reenforce 2 additional grounding points.
so my questions:
will i have problems after putting this setup in my car with power draw, i have no idea what kind of amprage my alternator outputs and im not looking to replace either the alternator or the battery.
should i try to use a 4ohm setup? (this seems dificult as im not fiding amps i like in a good price range)
for the big 3,
do i need gold terminals or am i ok with just plain (im guessing) steel or aluminum ones.
