Box Volume

Hey

I built my own box for my 15" rocksford sub, and the specs the guy gave me at the store(it didn't have a package) said that ported and sealed box volume is recomended at 2.5 cuft. but i always thought ported were bigger or is it more dependant on the sub. Basically i built my box sealed outta some 3/4 inch fiber board and did a simple fiberglass thing to recess the speaker, but after hearing everyone talk about porting being louder, i want to go for it, but i don't want to have to rebuild the box, or esspecially buy one. So do ported boxes need to be bigger, and we're the specs wrong? whats the deal.

I'm actually having a hard time finding the specs for my sub, so if anyone knows a web site that lists all the models, so i can pick mine out(preferibly the manufacture's web site) that would be awesome. thanx

I was bored and ran this for you.

2.5 cu ft is too small for ported if you ask me, but you can add a 4" port that is 14.25" long and it will tune it to 30hz. The good thing about this, for SPL reasons, is a gain of 4db @ 65hz. The draw back to this is a 3db down point of 40 hz. In car this won't be as noticable, but power handling below that will be bad.

Keep the box you have or build a new one.

My friend had two rockford 12 HE2. Not sure what model you have, I'm too lazy to look it up. But his HE2 were HIGHLY reccomended for sealed. Out of that sealed to ported scale. 1 to 150. 1 being highly optimized for sealed and 150 highly optimized for ported. His RFs were 25. So keep it in a sealed and see how you like it.
