Box Material

I am soon going to build a sub box and was wondering if 3/4 in. plywood would work? I know that MDF is recommended but i dont even know if my local hardware store has it. I have a friend who built his box out of plywood and his hasnt let him down yet. I want to know if there are any disadvantages to this material or not.

why not? If in doubt, just get one with a 1" thickness, that's what I always believe...
