bottom out?

Ok smartass.
Let me clarify it for you, since you enjoy being cute and offering zero information.

In order to bottom the XXX, you'll first want to take a razor blade to it.

Take a knife to the suspension, and then cut the coil off the cone. THEN if you can keep the coil straight in the gap.... No... Wait... You'll run out of gap before you hit the backplate...

But I'm sure you were going to add that weren't you.
Wow, someone doesn't like being disagreed with, I suggest a midol.

Sorry, but even a suspension limited drivers can bottom out. You just bottom out the suspension, as opposed to the coil. 'Bottomless' suggests having no bottom, which of course does not exist in speakers. My statement was not smart ***, it was factual.

NOW Im being a cute smart ***. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif

actually...

within the industry, coil / motor combinations in which the coil does not reach the backplate are commonly called bottomless designs..

now I'm the correct smartass.....

Ive never heard that term. And, its certainly misleading, as all drivers have a 'bottom'. I guess it was too much for jlaine to simply say that, rather than throw a tantrum. However, I stand corrected.

But, Im still cute. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/angel.gif.fa7795fff6653f4381ba158c55a48b74.gif

I was the correct smartass from the beginning, Mr. Fart-knocker.

Take your midol and cram it, you'll need it for future encounters with me.

Adjust your gains to eliminate clipping, or turn it down. It's your amp saying it's at it's limits... You can't get any more out of it.

so waht is clipping and how do you fix it?
In very simple terms, clipping is when you push the amp beyond it's outputs capabilities, so the amp "clips" off the top & bottom of the signal (the audio wave). Usual cause of very hard clipping is having the gain set too high. Usual fix is turning the gain down.

Now children, settle down and play nice :readytogo

I know, Ive been around a while, I know his M.O. I really have no intentions in fighting with someone, especially someone whose maturity level allows him to call people fart-knockers. (lol) IMO he doesn't need help making himself look bad. My original comment, albeit mistaken (as Ive found out), was not intended as smart ***. But what the hell, he amused me with his response, I needed a good laugh. And the midol comment, I was serious, I think it would really help. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks for the advice tho. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Assuming I even have a M.O. -

I've known Loyd since before this forum existed, I'll call him what I want - he's a personal friend of mine. I look bad to nobody here besides those who are ignorant of me, which apparently you fall into that category, and that's fine.

You talk too much for your own good when you have nothing useful to say and too little when you are trying to impart information pertinent to a thread.

Perhaps I read the intent behind the commentary incorrectly, and if so, I offer my apologies for that.
