Big Time Help?!?!

hey guys, i'm trying to help this kid out with his stereo, its his first one and h installed it by himself...now he asks me for help...he has everything wired up right(or so it looks) the deck is grounded of the steering column(old truck)...and the amp is grounded the the actuall chasis of the truck...he turns his deck on and plays the music then the sub cuts out...if he disconnects the sub, and then tries to "crank it" it does not cut out...anyone have some suggestions?...need help..

So from what I understand...is that the sub cuts out under load or do all the door speakers cut out as well? Is that the only amp he has in the truck ?

Grounding problem maybe?...did you scrape clean the ground? How much power, what kinda wire? What kinda sub/amp...what coil configuration? Does he have it wired to low for the amp hes using...?

Not that this will solve the problem but Id rewire everything again cause you dont know for sure if everything hooked up right. I bet you could improve the grounds..

grounds have been scraped clean...everything cuts out under load when the sub is hooked up, if the sub/amp are taken out the speakers work great...i cant remember what sub/amp he has i know he has a sony deck

Sounds like a voltage issue. The voltage is dropping so low under load that the amps cut off to protect themselves from damage. This is most likely caused due to having too small of a power/ground wire or a bad ground location.

Give us the model of the sub amp and the sub and the size of wire you're using for the power/ground. Also, what amperage is the alt rated for and do you still use the stock battery?

Its also an old truck...the charging system could be shot. How old is the battery/alternator?
