Best digital camera..??

ANy ideas on this lil problem.. Its an sd630

ts a 6 megapixel camera and even when its on the Large setting( i think thats resolution, L, M1 M2 Sm etc ) 2800x2100 or somewhere around there and i transfer it to the computer it only comes up as a 500 kb file.. My old 5 megapixel on full res was around 1.1-1.5 MB per pic..

Well i was diking around with it and set it on superfine setting.. whatever that is.. And my pic went from 500k to 2.8 MB .. But something still seems wrong to me.. When im zooming in on the 2 pics even tho there 1.5MB apart they both start to get fuzzy at about the same time... ( 6-7 zoom ins) .. At 6 megapixel i should be able to see the fly turds from 10-15 feet away without the thing starting to pixelize right?

No ...
If you took a picture of fly-turds and want it to seem like you're 3" away, but you took the picture from 16 feet away with no initial zoom ...

16 feet = 6 MPixels

8 feet = 3 MPixels

4 feet = 1.5 MPixels

2 feet = 0.75 MPixels

1 foot = 0.375 MPixels

6 inches = 0.1875 MPixels

3 inches = 0.09375 MPixels

Of course they're going to pixelate at the same time, it doesn't mean they're the same quality picture, though ... Superfine uses less compression (remember, it is JPEG, a compressed image format), so you get a more accurate reproduction of the picture ...

Ok, im following you .. Until the whole compression thing.. so are you saying that if i took 2 exact pics from the same distance away and one was from my cam and the other from a cell and the both start to pixelate at the same time.. ( 5-6 or whatever zoom clicks) what s the point of a digital cam... Is it the overall first pic .. without zoom.. Im really sh!tty at this sorry for all the questions.. Flameage after i figure out wtf is going on is perfectly fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Should i purchase the Best Buy 4 year warranty for $60??? I almost did when i bought the cam but didnt think i needed it.. But now seeing how small it is and the screen so vulnerable etc etc Just for my concern i was gonna think about buying it, since i have 14 days from purchase to add it on.. Just overall when i was buying it i didnt get it because i was just thinkiing about the cam problems.. Not if i drop it or anything .. Sooo worth it or no??

ok, i might get the warranty .. Just like you said for insurance.. It'll really be worth it if it has dumbass insurance in case i drop it or something..

And no my phone cam takes pics MAX at about 100 kb... I was saying that even tho its a camera phone compared to my 6 megapixel If i were to put a pic from each on there same distance etc. I can zoom in on the computer the same amount of times before they pixelate.. From computer ( digital ) zoom

Get a Canon powershot A430 , takes some great pictures , solid build , and can be had for less than $150. The Nikon coolpix are nice too , very easy to use. The only thing that sucks about them is that they dont have a view finder.
