Best Anti-Spyware Software?

spybot search and destroy
I had bad luck with them and lots of trojans getting thru

also the older version of ad-aware is what i use too, both that and spybot s&d
and its funny bc ad-ware on my computer was where a virus was stored and so everytime I ran the scan it tagged all my files with the virus

^^^^^Man was that a pain in the *** to fix

there is no single end all be all spyware program, they each use different search algorithms so you will notice that some of them find stuff that other programs would not.

your best bet is to go with AT LEAST 2, I recommend spybot s&d and ad-aware (both free), also another good program to have is winpatrol (free also)

I first usually scan with Adaware SE and go through it's removal process, then use Spybot S&D for the 2nd run. I almost always pick up something else when I run spybot that Adaware didn't pick up.

Also, I highly recommend you download a program called CCleaner and run it. Tits, to say the very least.

TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE WHEN DOING THIS!!!

that's where viruses like to hide themselves. So when your computer boots up and that virus isn't there, it recreates itself.. Turning off system restore and removing everything then turning it back on will stop them from recreating themselves

I've had good results with ad-aware too. It even creates a log incase you need to look further into whats screwing with your system.

Ideally everyone should be running Kaspersky or NOD32 ... or, even more ideal, not be retarded when it comes to using their computers (anyone who knows computers well doesn't need to use an anti-virus to stay malware free) ...

However, if you want free, I'd use Spyware Terminator (Active) and compliment it w/ Spybot and Ad-Aware (Passive) ...
