Bazooka Tube 8" or Solobaric SL8 for bass

It is 1.00195 without port or sub.
Dimensions are 11x15x15. 3/4 MDF
Alrighty.

It's going to be roughly 0.8 cu-ft after the sub and entire recommended port is inside.

Sub disp for SWR-1042D = 0.063 cu-ft.

Wow, WinISD is giving me a result of 25.51 Hz for the tuning frequency.

Nominal port velocity would be about 4 ft/sec (peaking at around 5.5).

[EDIT]

I just changed the port tuning to 30 Hz, and it shows a 3" diameter port would need to be 24".

OK, so I'm reading this as I could have that sub tuned to 30 Hz in the current box as long as I can come up with 24" of port length. I'm sure I could get 24" somehow.

Would adding bends/elbows to the pvc inside of the box compromise the effectiveness of the port function?

Nope. Most boxes that have square integrated ports look like a rat maze as it is. (example: http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?products_id=289 )

One smooth, rounded bend in a pvc port isn't going to do squat. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

This was a very helpful thread, as I was against ported enclosures ... didn't want to get into what I thought was going to be time-consuming trial-and-error "voodoo engineering" to try to get something that sounds decent!

Didn't realize you could uses PVC bends! Makes sense, just didn't realize.

Didn't realize you could extend the port outside the box! Again, makes sense.

Do you have to dampen, insulate, or do anything else to the PVC inside the enclosure? I mean, is PVC itself sufficient to accomplish the job of being a port?

I have some Damplifier if it's needed.

Do you just screw the PVC to the MDF? I have some 3.5" long wood screw. Could I just screw right on through the 3" PVC and into the MDF?

I already have a 1.0 cubic foot prototype box I made but am not using. I am gonna port that sucker tonight and try it!
