That is tuned high........you are losing tons of low end. Why didnt you just stay sealed??? The sub is right in your pocket almost.....it would have sounded great, and given you great low end. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gifYeah, that's the port. I used 2" pvc. It's ~2.8" long to give the box a tuning of 45.5 hz. Since this was my first ported box, I tried to build to Kenwoods spec for the sub (1.0 cu/ft ported tuned to 45 hz) as a trial. I didn't know what to expect or how it was going to sound. I've always had sealed boxes in my trucks.
I could have used 3" pvc and made the port 6" long, but the 3" pvc looked to large for some reason while I was at Lowes.
Suggestions???

Thanks... I am going to tune it lower. I just wanted to get it in "as-is" last night to see how it fit/rode/sounded. Now that I know I like the size, I can play with the port length and sub choice.Looks like you did a nice job on the box.
I'm going to have to concur with the others, though. Tune that sucka lower and utilize that subs potential! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Well, here's why...
I took that 2 sub box (sealed) that I had in my old truck and put it in my new one to see what it sounded like. I thought it would sound much better since there was more room. For some reason, it sounded like shit.
In my old truck, the subs were right up against the back seat and it souded good. So, that got me thinking about the Kenwood subs and that maybe they weren't that great (I knew that already, but they did sound really good in my old truck).
My thoughts were, for Shits-n=Giggles take a look at the Kenwood manual to see what they recommend for a sealed and ported enclosure since you have the sub already. That's what I did. I thought since I was going from 2 10"'s to 1 10" I wouldn't be happy. Thought maybe a ported enclosure would help that lonely 10" out a bit....well, it did. I think it sounds **** good. But it seems you guys think it could be better by lengthening the port a bit to tune it lower. That, I can easily try.
Do you relly think a sealed box would sound better than the 1 I built?
http://sonicelectronix.com/item_5529.htmlSo, sub choices. If you could put a 10" in that box and had 400W to throw at it, what would it be. Keep in mind I will need to use the round port, but can change the lenght to suit. Budget would be
In your opinion, would a $175 sub be a large improvement over my $80-$90 Kenwood Typhoon?
Sweet. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif Looks like I've got plenty of choices. I'll update with a decision and overall impression after changing the Kenwood out and tuning to a lower frequency. Thanks,http://sonicelectronix.com/item_5529.html

All in all, I'd choose the Alpine Type R out of all those considering the box size. Hit up Alpine's web site and snag the manual (page 4). You'll likely have to enlarge that port a bit.... to about 3.5" for their recommended 11 sq-in port area.Sweet. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif Looks like I've got plenty of choices. Based upon Alpines recommendations, I can't figure out what size round port I would need. All in all, I'd choose the Alpine Type R out of all those considering the box size. A 90 degree bend in the port tube if you can snake it through the opening on the box might do the trick.Based upon Alpines recommendations, I can't figure out what size round port I would need.
They are calling for 11 sq/inches x 22 inches long. By my calculations, that's .14005 cu/ft.
3" pvc would be the largest diameter that would fit the current box. Inside the box, I only have about 12 inches to work with. I know I could extend the port outside the box, but I like the current dimensions. How could I make this work...
