how long does it take you guys on average to download like a cd or movie from a torrent site. also what are some tips when downloading, like more seeds and less leachers or even amount or small amounts of each. also what sites do you guys use. thanks

Torrents vary a LOT on speed. The goal is obviously to have as many seeders as possible with as few leachers.

To give you an idea of the speed range, right now I'm downloading an old season of 24, at a whopping 2 Kb/s, where as I downloaded last week's episode at ~250 Kb/s.

As far as what sites to use? The ones that aren't yet shut down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I like torrentz.com and isohunt.com, but the later is in some legal trouble right now. One that's run overseas but isn't quite as nice IMO is piratebay.org. There really are a ton of options though.

Don't forget mininova.org ^^. I exclusively use that and torrentspy, never heard of the others, but will look into em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

As the guy said earlier, it depends on how many seeds/leechers. If everything was perfect, I could do 450kb/s. The biggest tip of all is: open ports 6881-6999; these are (or were) the defacto standard ports for torrents, but it may vary now depending on your client.

thanks. yea i was just wondering because sometimes it will take 25 minutes to get a cd and others will say like 3 hours so i thought maybe i was doing something wrong or useing a bad site but im using whats been mentioned so thats good. as for movies does it take you guys like over 4 hours. even if there are 300 seeds and 5 leachers it still takes forever.

oh and it will have a pop up thing that asks if you want to make that your defaulft torrent reader or something like that. make sure to click yes or else they wont download there.

Watch out for abnormally high seeded torrents on public torrent sites. Probably people sending bad data, and the rest is the MPAA. A friend of mine got a warning letter from Warner Brothers after downloading "Just Friends" from torrentspy. If you notice, they revamped their site and lost the TV shows and movie directory and just crammed it into a "Video" category. They must have gotten warned as well.
